stx 15f top speed!
So, I have been doing a little research and it seems that most stock skis are not going past 65. I think I have a special ski or something, and not in the De de de way.
so my ski regularly shows 70 MPH with just me and 3/4 tank of gas on relatively smooth water, its all stock. I figured that the Speedo was just off after reading everyone actual speeds. So I took the GPS unit out and from one end of the lake to the other I hit 76.4 on the gps, with the speedo stuck at 70mph I used the gps in my truck for verification purposes and it was right on. I only use 92 octane and this is the 1st year I have owned it. (14 hours on it now)
Anyways the reason I am right this is because , I didnt follow the kawa break in period, I let it idle for a few minuets then gave it half throttle for about 15 minutes, then went full throttle in spurts for the 1st couple of hours. I dont know if maybe my GPS is off, but, if someone has another GPS in the Council bluffs area, I would like to try and verify these readings with another GPS
Thanks
D

Re: stx 15f top speed!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is definitely your gps. Your ski is a fast one, but no matter how you broke it in, it still is only going to run in the very low 60's.
You can't use the max speed readout on the gps, either, without doing multiple runs. It will show spikes from time to time. I have gps'd max speed in my truck at over 100 while having my cruise set on 65.

well, I was afraid of that. I was kinda afraid to post this becouse I thought I would get flamed , anyways I was using the top speed portion of the GPS so it sounds like thats what it is.

But, has the better hole shot.RXP/RXT is faster by about 5-6 mph.
The 92 octane is not a good idea. But, then neither was not breaking in your craft.
Good Luck

Re: stx 15f top speed!
well, I did some resarch on the breaking in thing, and it really seems that everyone has there own idea on how best to do the break ins, but went to a website that was not selling anything and showed the differnt internals of bikes and skis and the ones that set the rings by going all out right away were alot cleaner then the ones that followed the break in process by the manufacuter. ( in short they say setting the rings is the only thnig that needs to be done these days)
Also I relize that 92 octane runs hotter, but I am not sure why you say its not a good idea ? running 92 prevents knock more then 87 or 89 alowing the ski more freedom of timing adjustment ( unless these 4 strokes are extremely differnt from other 4 strokes)
Thanks

I agree with the harder break in and agree on 87 octane unless there's a knock. Pretty sure there must be some site that says why. Just what I was taught. Hoping that it's all good in the long run.

DIts less volatile and makes less power, and less heat....its a common misconception that premium makes more power, and runs hotter. But trust me on this, its just the opposite.
What it will do is keep a high compression or some other way high performance motor from burning down.
If you are a tad lean, or timing is too advanced etc. it could save you a motor.
Otherwise run regualr. And the best motors are ones broken in hard, but also correctly.
Warm it up fully, then run it hard....but vary the throttle.
Do not just go WOT 50 miles up the lake....LOLI was racing my pals on there skis with about 15 mins on my new ski.
But just in short bursts.
And you ski is not as fast as your GPS is telling you.
Verified speeds i have recorded.
Me 210 pounds, doubling my GF 130 pounds, full fuel, glass calm water is 58 mph.
just me & full fuel is 59.
1/4 tank and me is 60.
1/4 tank , me and a light chop is 62.

were you on a river going with the current? That would account for the GPS reading. Just a thought.
